I cut down the time I spent planning and built a minilesson library!
I was spending a lot of time planning and prepping for reading lessons, especially the first few days of a new skill. We typically focus on one reading skill a week which meant my weekends were often spent putting the finishing touch on my plans.
I wanted to streamline how I introduced reading topics to make it easy for me and engaging for my students. I started sitting down at the beginning of each unit and creating a PowerPoint that had slides for all the skills in the unit; introducing the skill, modeling, practicing, and playing. This unit-long PowerPoint was broken apart by skill and slides were added over time.
Tried & Tested
It got to the point where my team was really loving the weekly PowerPoints and we were using them to guide instruction for the grade level. I knew I had to clean them up, add some cute clip art, and list them on TPT so that other teachers could get their time back as well.
The PowerPoints are designed to cover everything you would need for day one of a skill. I start off every PowerPoint as if the students have never heard of the skill before.
As the PowerPoint progresses, students have the opportunity to practice with the skill in and out of context. I usually end up with more slides than I need in this portion and my PowerPoint can be rolled over for Day two of the lesson.
If you want a concrete way to walk your students from introduction to understanding, these mini lessons are definitely for you.

These days I just scour my library and I’m set for the “hard” part of the week (which is what I consider helping them to grasp the skill)!
With 19 reading mini lessons, 23 math mini lessons, and 7 grammar mini lessons, I can usually plan to open my week with a mini lesson presentation which means no more scrolling Pinterest on Sunday nights.
All of the mini-lessons available have preview videos available on the product page. They are also available as a bundle or individual. Click the buttons above to check out each below or keep scrolling to see all of the lessons in each library.
